6 Reasons to Make West Virginia Your Forever Home

October 8, 2021 by spugh 2 Comments

West Virginia is a state where your wild, adventurous spirit can truly be free. With endless forests to roam, mountains to climb, and lakes and rivers to play in, West Virginia is the place to live for all those who aren’t keen on bustling city life and the cost of living that comes with it. Keep reading to find out 6 reasons to make West Virginia your forever home. ♥

Elbow room, and then some

It seems like every new housing development is so condensed that you can make direct eye contact with your next door neighbors from your bedroom window. In my opinion, one of the most appealing things about West Virginia life is how spacious it is. When you move to the country, you can also get much more space and land. You’ll have plenty of breathing room, and the peace and quiet that goes along with it.

Curious about West Virginia’s most iconic communities? Have a look at Charles Town and Harpers Ferry.

Affordability

In WV, the cost of living is dramatically lower, which is perfect for the middle class, retirees, and young families. Buying a home is no exception to these savings. According to Best Places, the median home cost in DC is over $675,000, while in Charles Town, the median cost is only $311,000. Those are some major savings! When compared to DC on Best Place’s cost of living calculator, Charles Town is significantly cheaper in every category. See for yourself using their tool to compare any city or town.

Natural beauty and outdoor adventures

Nothing is more refreshing than cool mountain air first thing in the morning (or evening). That’s why there are 37 state parks in West Virginia. On top of the endless forests and mountains, there are also lots of rivers, like the Potomac or the Cacapon rivers. Whether you’re a seasoned outdoor enthusiast, or completely new to outdoor adventuring, there are hikes and activities for everyone. Even if you’d rather sit and enjoy nature from the comfort of your backyard, splendid views are not hard to find.

Close to other cities and states

Many towns and cities in West Virginia are close to other cities. Want to go to Baltimore for a day trip? No problem; many parts of WV are within an hour and half drive. The same is true for DC. Fancy a trip to Pennsylvania, Maryland, or Virginia? They’re all just a few hours (or less) away. WV’s proximity to other places keeps travel affordable and exciting.

Wine and beer

Love spirits? West Virginia is home to enough wineries and breweries that you’ll never have to visit the same one twice. Not only are they good places to have a drink or two, many of these establishments regularly host events like live music or performances. Need a place to throw a party or hold a corporate event? You can also rent a space at their venue, and many also offer catering services.

West Virginian hospitality

Small town and rural living makes for tight-knit communities. When living in WV, you won’t get the cold reactions or indifference of city folk. People say hello to you at the grocery store, and many want to strike up a conversation and get to know you. There’s even a Friendly, WV!

Keep pushing the more affluent areas! We In the lesser money bracket areas in our state are more than happy to keep the riffraff out of our lesser known counties!
